Calypso Coral Sticky Note Holder

Can you say hooray for Calypso Coral!!

I'm so excited that with the recent Color

Refresh, Stampin' Up! has decided to

keep Calypso Coral and add it to the

Subtles family.  It would otherwise

have been retired, as it is one of the

2012-2013 In Colors.

 

 

This little book holds a long sticky

note pad.  It's Crumb Cake card stock

with a Chocolate Chip mat and Calypso

Coral polka dot Designer Series Paper mat.

 

The clasp is made with the Two Tags die (retiring,

so get it fast before they're all gone!) and some tiny

button magnets.

 

Super cute and easy and makes a great little

gift for a teacher or friend for Mother's Day.

I had one friend who's a 2nd grade teacher say

she was going to have her students make them

in class to give to their moms for Mother's Day.

What a sweet idea!

Wooden Board Picture Frame

Who would have ever thought a simple 2" X 8" X 8' piece

of wood could make 12 super cute picture frames?

 

 

 

Yep, that's right.  Go to your local home improvement

store and get one board measuring 2 inches by 8 inches

by 8 foot long, have them cut it into 12 equal pieces

of 8 inches.  Then you have 12 pieces of wood

that are 2 inches by 8 inches by 8 inches.

 

When you get them home, give them a rough sand

to remove any loose splinters and make the wood ready

to paint.  Spray each piece with your desired

color of spray paint.

 

 

Once painted and completely dry, give another rough

sand to give achieve a distressed look.

Now you'll need some Mod Podge (can be purchased at a craft store),

a sponge applicator, and some Designer Series Paper cut

to fit the front of the frame.  I cut mine at 6 5/8" by 7 1/4".

 

Apply a coat of Mod Podge directly onto the wood block.

 

Adhere your Designer Series Paper on top

of the coat of Mod Podge.  Press all over the

paper to make sure it's glued down well,

especially the edges.

 

Apply a top coat of Mod Podge.

 

Let it dry for about 15 minutes or so.  Or if you're

impatient like me, you can dry it with a hair dryer

or a craft heat tool, making sure not to hold the

dryer or heat tool in one place too long, but keep

it moving so you don't burn the Mod Podge or the

paper.

 

If you find that your paper is bubbling

up, you can run a brayer over it to flatten

it back out.  Most of the bubbles

will disappear as the Mod Podge dries,

but it also helps to use a brayer.

 

Make sure the Mod Podge is pretty dry

before using the brayer.

 

Apply up to 5 coats for a high-gloss finish,

waiting 15-20 minutes between coats to

allow for drying time.

Once all coats of Mod Podge are completely dry,

use a power drill to insert a wood screw

towards the top of your frame.  

 

 

Now you have something metal for a magnet to

cling to.  You can find cute magnets at an

office supply store or any big box department

store with an office supply section.

 

 

Here is what the completed frame will look like.

 

You can also embellish with a fabric flower.

 

Or you can leave off the Designer Series Paper and

embellish with a stamped sentiment and fabric flower.

 

On this frame, I turned the wood block so it's oriented to a

landscape size, with the cut edges to the left and right of the

frame rather than to the top and bottom of the frame.

Easter Eggs with a Punch!

Just a quick Easter egg dying trick.

 

Use any shape punch and punch adhesive-backed

vinyl and adhere to your eggs before

coloring.  Once you reach the desired color, dry

the egg and peel away the punched sticker.

 

The butterfly egg was colored yellow first, then applied

the vinyl butterfly and dipped into blue color.

Oh, Hello ...

Today's card is super fast and has that wow factor!

The color contrast is striking.

 

 

 

I used Basic Grey card stock with White Staz-On ink

for the chevron stamp from the Oh, Hello stamp set from

the Spring catalog.  The flower is made from the cupcake

liners within the Pop-Up Posies kit, also from the

Spring catalog.  Add a Tangerine Tango button for the

center with some Lucky Limeade baker's twine.

 

The stem is just freehand cut from Lucky Limeade card stock,

and the leaf is cut from the 2011-2013 In-Color Designer

Series Paper Stack in Lucky Limeade.

 

See, quick and easy -- queasy -- no, wait, that shorthand 

doesn't work!  :)

Twix Petite Box

Don't you just love these spring colors?  This is

one of the choices of patterned paper from this

year's Sale-A-Bration.  Always sad to see

Sale-A-Bration come to an end.

 

We also made these little boxes at this month's Stamp

Club meeting.  Super cute and easy to whip

up a batch.  You could change the theme

and make enough for your kids' classmates,

teachers, your co-workers, neighbors ...

Pinwheel Penny Spinner Card

Check out this whimsical card we made at

the March Stamp Club meeting.

 

This was the first spinner card I have ever made

and it was loads of fun!  Probably not the

best candidate for mailing this guy, but

a great card to hand-deliver.

 

The patterned paper is the Patio Party Designer Series Paper, with

Summer Starfruit stitched ribbon and Midnight Muse card stock.

The Happy Birthday sentiment is from the Sassy Salutations stamp set.

 

 

 

Here are the instructions for making a penny spinner card:

1) Use Word Window punch or hobby blade to cut a 3/8" slot (straight, zigzag, or curved) into your card stock. Stamp card stock as desired.

2) Sandwich a Stampin' Dimensional between two pennies.

3) Insert pennies into slot, carefully pulling at edges to avoid tearing card stock.

4) Stamp (optional) and cut out your spinner image. (I used the pinwheel die from the Spring Catalog.)  Adhere to penny using a glue dot.

5) Adhere slotted card stock piece with spinner to your card using Stampin' Dimensionals.  I stacked two Dimensionals on top of each other to raise the slotted card stock enough to give the spinner more room.  I adhered the Dimensionals along the top and bottom of the slotted card stock in 8 places, using 16 total Dimensionals.

I hope you have fun with this one.  There are so many possibilities to this ...

butterflies, flowers, basketballs, etc.  I'd love to hear your ideas!

Easter Banner -- Stampin' Up! style!!

Hello, all!  I've been really under the weather lately

and haven't been posting to my blog, but I'm back

and this banner is too cheery to feel icky!

 

This was first demonstrated at the Stampin' Up!

Dallas Regional back in February by

Jennifer Gulch.  When she demonstrated

this banner, I knew I was going to have to make

it, and share it with others, so I had a class today

and we made this little gem!

 

Everyone in attendance received a full pack

of Birds of a Feather Designer Series Paper, the

Artisan Embellishment kit from the Spring Catalog,

and a full spool of white Organza ribbon.

 

Most embellishments needed are in the Artisan Embellishments

kit, but some additional elements needed are the

Vintage Faceted buttons, Pearls, a few extra doilies,

Antique brads, Lace tape from the Spring Catalog,

Pool Party Sale-A-Bration buttons, and

of course card stock.  We used Primrose Petals,

Summer Starfruit, Crumb Cake, Pool Party, and Island Indigo.
